Softball drops two to Stetson
April 18, 2008 DELAND, Fla. - The JU softball team was swept in its doubleheader against Stetson on Friday, falling 5-0, 1-0 in DeLand, Fla. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Iveson kept the Dolphins in game two, giving up just one run (in the sixth inning) in six innings while striking out five. In game one, the Dolphins recorded five hits, including a single by senior outfielder Jillian Mirante, bringing her one hit shy of equaling Janine Palumbo's school record of 185. Sophomore third baseman Beth Glasscock, freshman catcher Jessica Abraham and freshman outfielders Kayla Ouellet and Katarina Engler recorded the other hits for the Dolphins in the 5-0 loss. Senior pitcher Shannon Jensen (10-4) gave up five runs (one earned) in 2.1 innings. Freshman pitcher Jackie Samuels pitched a near-perfect game of relief, giving up just two hits in 3.2 innings. Despite Iveson's impressive effort and a spectacular catch by Ouellet to rob the Lady Hatters of a home run, the Dolphins lost 1-0 in game two. Stetson pitcher Amanda Lindsey pitched her first career no-hitter. The Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday, traveling to Ft. Myers, Fla. to take on Florida Gulf Coast in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. |
