JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU head women's soccer coach Chris Kouns announced his resignation on Tuesday after four years at the helm of the program.

He leaves JU with an overall record of 31-41-10 in his four seasons as head coach. In conference play, he led JU to a 16-18-6 record during that span.

"We appreciate Chris' efforts over the past four years and wish him and his wife, Tammy, the best in all of their future endeavors," said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. "Our women's soccer program has proven it can be a conference winner and we plan on finding a new coach who can continue the growth of recruiting and competing."

Kouns did lead the Dolphins to the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament title in 2006 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, the first for JU since 2000.

"My wife and I are expecting our first child and as such the time has come for this chapter of our lives comes to a close," Kouns said. "I want to thank Alan Verlander for the opportunity to work with the Jacksonville University women's soccer program the past four years. At this time I am able to leave the program pleased with the progress we've made and secure that our decisions have all been made with the correct intentions.

"I feel fortunate to have worked with a group that appeared in four straight conference tournaments, won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship and appeared in the NCAA College Cup. The student-athletes and the friendships I've made in the past four years will be something I will always remember and I wish everyone involved continued success."
