JU Magazine cover
From enjoying the tunes of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival to shopping and dining at The Landing, downtown Jacksonville's riverfront setting provides the ideal backdrop for entertainment and activity.

Jacksonville, the gateway to Florida, is a vibrant growing community with a median age of only 35 making it the "youngest" major city in Florida. A rare combination of beauty and technology, small town charm and big city amenities, fine arts and first downs, this First Coast of Florida sets new standards for metropolitan living. Jacksonville is the complete environment for people who crave a challenge in their games and their careers, and who enjoy the excitement of a city on the rise. Money Magazine has consistently ranked Jacksonville as one of its "Top 10 Best Places to Live." It is a combination world-class business center and a waterfront paradise with the heart of a small town. Yet, it has seemingly infinite sources for comfort, relaxation and space when it's needed.

Metropolitan Jacksonville is northeast Florida's financial, commercial, industrial and transportation center, home to more than one million people. In addition to a moderate climate averaging 71 degrees year-round, Jacksonville offers many advantages to JU students. Historical sites, rivers, woodlands and beautiful beaches surround the city's business district.

The Jacksonville Landing is a festive riverfront marketplace and dining spot, while the city plays host to a national jazz festival. Popular riverwalks on the south and north banks of the St. John's River attract residents and visitors alike.

The city has also become a home of various regional and national sporting events, hosting NFL Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005 while welcoming the ACC Football Championship game in 2005 and the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds in 2006.

Jacksonville's beach communities, which are located just 15 minutes from bustling downtown, include Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach. With miles of sandy white beaches and a mild, breezy climate, you can enjoy year-round golfing, boating, fishing, tennis and other outdoor sports, not to mention a variety of festivals throughout spring and summer.

Jacksonville offers something for every sports fan, from the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, to a host of other professional and collegiate athletic events.
Jacksonville also has one of the unique sports complexes in the country with ALLTEL Stadium, a brand new 11,000-seat state-of-the-art baseball stadium and the newly-constructed Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, a 16,000-seat sports and entertainment facility - all located within walking distance of each other.
